Today was my first day of clinical. My rotation was n the Medical intensive care Unit (MICU). I can best describe my first day as an unexpected, yet, eventful. My preceptor and I had a one-one patient. Which means he had only one patient to care for. At first I thought today is going to be boring I am not going to learn because there is only one patient. However, I was wrong, the extent of care exceeded my expectations.
The patient was restrained all day, delusional, and on contact for C-Diff (horrible bacteria in the intestines that needs extensive antibiotics). He was also at risk for injury (pulling out his IVs and falling out of bed). He refused to be in a hospital, as he was more content with feeling like he was in a hotel. So we acted within his fantasy to provide the best care.
After reporting with the patient and reading through his chart. My preceptor and I made a learning plan.
- Hygiene Care
- Medication Administration
- Dialysis
- Arterial line Insertion
