A Danger to Everyone — How I got over being different!
Growing up I had a tough time. My childhood was difficult. I caused significant exhaustion, emotional exhaustion, and pain for the people I care about the most. At a very young age, I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. It engulfed my life and the lives of everyone I cared about.
When I was young, I was a danger to myself and those around me. At the age of 11 months, I was able to walk on my own. By 12 months, I was already capable of running and climbing. I relied on the toaster oven door to help lift my weight and anything else I could use on my journey to the top of the fridge. Sorry, mom.
Every minute of every day, my mother was terrified. Think of putting your child in a baby cart and putting it next to you. After a brief moment of inattention, while closing the trunk, you realize I’ve vanished.
In a panic, you ask people if they’ve seen me. “well, what is she wearing?” “Her stroller is still attached to her, so it should be obvious.” And then, out of the corner of your eye, you see your child running halfway across the parking lot with a stroller attached to her back
YUP! That was me.
OH! The grocery store’s conveyor belts weren’t an obstacle for me, either. I would jump on top of them. Oh, and the mall’s fountains…
